About ClosetFormulas

ClosetFormulas exists for one simple reason: most style advice assumes an unlimited budget, a walk-in closet, and a life spent at events. We write for the rest of us. Our readers get dressed for work, school runs, classrooms, offices, and ordinary weekends, usually in ten minutes, from a closet that is already full and somehow still feels empty.

Who this is for

If you have ever bought a lovely top that goes with nothing you own, worn the same three outfits on rotation while forty pieces watch from the rail, or wondered why wide leg trousers look right on everyone except you, you are our people. Our formulas assume real bodies, real budgets, and clothes you mostly already have.

How we build a formula

Every guide on ClosetFormulas has to pass three tests. Does the formula work with pieces a normal closet already holds, not a shopping list of twelve new items? Do the proportions honestly work on real bodies, with the adjustments spelled out? And would we wear it on a Tuesday, not just photograph it on a Saturday? Formulas that fail a test do not get published, however pretty they are.

A note on our images

Many of the outfits you will see here are AI-generated inspiration images, created to show a formula, a proportion, or a color combination as clearly as possible. They are outfit inspiration only. They are never photographs of a real garment for sale, and never a promise that a specific product looks, fits, or drapes a certain way. Where a guide talks about something you can buy, we describe it in words and link to the retailer, so you can judge the real product photos, fabric details, and size charts yourself. We would rather be honest about an image than impressive with one.
